Potty Training... the part i didn't expect

So I don't know if Thursday is the best day to blog this, but I have to talk about it.

My potty trained son, Oliver (age 2), has recently taken to peeing in things. Recently as in TODAY. i am a single mom raising him pretty much on my own. He lives with me full time and sees his dad about once a month, so I am left to teach him how to pee like a man.

My SO is a huge help with Oliver, but not he doesn't really help Oliver with anything bathroom related and that is ok with me. It isn't his place anyway and I am just grateful for all the help I get from him in every other child-rearing aspect.

Anyhow, this morning when I got up to pick up my cat from the vet, I noticed two tall glass cups of juice on his table. Actually, the glasses were tall but each had about 2 inches of peachy-yellow juice in them. I had to rush out so I didn't pay them much attention. I just helped Oliver, who had woke up before me (as usual), get dressed and we rushed out the door.

Later on, after we were home, I dozed off on the couch while Oliver watched cartoons. At Some point he woke me up with a Sundrop bottle, telling me he had peed in it. I told him that was gross and to please use the potty (he uses a "grown-up" toilet) next time and to throw the bottle away. A little bit later, I hear the sound of liquid in the kitchen. Of pouring. I walked in to find him peeing in his Cars cup. EW.

I told him NOT to pee in his cups, please. At this point I remember and grab the two glasses, and I sniff. GROSS. What I had thought was the white cranberry/peach OceanSpray juice was pee. I dumped all the cups in the sink and fussed a bit.

I don't know what to do... I know that there are urinal-style training potties available, but I don't really want to buy one when he could just use a stool or something to stand and pee. But he won't stand on a stool and pee in the toilet. He had been doing FINE sitting and peeing, but the last few days I've been out and about with him a lot and I've actually taken him to the men's room urinals available and let him pee standing. Apparently, to a boy, peeing while standing is AWESOME. I guess it's just a new, different experience for him since he's used to sitting.

I don't know how to handle this. I grew up with 4 sisters. Oliver is my first boy. He is too short to pee in the toilet without standing on a stool, but he doesn't seem to want to stand on one. Maybe he doesn't feel secure doing it that way.

Anyway, this is a whole new experience for me.. and despite the gross dirty dishes I'm getting from it, I actually think it's quite funny.

Not again...

So even though I felt really good yesterday and went out on a walk/adventure/run with an old friend last night, I woke up this morning with the bug.. again. It is *really* wearing me out. Unfortunately, it's hard telling when it'll all be over since so many people around here have it and it'll probably be passed around quite a bit. Oh well. Last night was really nice. Had a good smoke and collected some mirrors off of old cars for future art projects from the junkyard.

Anyhow, thanks for all the well wishes and comments this morning!

As a side note, I didn't realize my posts were showing up "early". But thanks to Kevin Lomax and his comment (Love the pic, wonder how it would look if it was posted on Thursday), I noticed that my post last night showed up as being posted around 9 even though I put it up at midnight. This post is asking if I want to set the post date and time as 7:43 PM even though it's 10:47 here. Looks like I need to tinker with my settings. Thanks for the tip, Kevin.

Running Shorts

Perfect weather tonight, and I'm finally not feeling like hell. Even my kids are over the stomach bug running rampant through our town, and I VERY happy about that :)

lack of posts...

I have been pretty sick for a few weeks. Last night was the worst of it for me, but I am feeling better today. I'm *so* sorry for missing out on HNT, and promise to catch up big time.

In other news, I have been playing the hell out of some Aquaria. I bought it in the Humble Indie Bundle package that Wolfire offered a few weeks ago. The deal is over, but I paid only $9 for a total of 6 games. Aquaria is the only one I've played much of.. World of Goo was very cute but I *love* platform games and Aquaria is very pretty with nice music.

I'm glad to be getting more gaming time in, because that's the whole reason I bought an Asus laptop. I had actually bought it to play WoW, and even paid a 6-month subscription, but haven't played much since you can't really play without having large blocks of time to play.

In other news, my daughter asked me (today) where babies come from! It took me completely by surprise. I explained as best I could without telling her anything about sex, and that was good enough for her. I basically dumbed it down to eggs, seeds, and sharing, and caring about the person you chose to share with.

Well, that is it for now! You didn't get a HNT pic but you *did* finally get a blog update!
